Maurice ROUCEL

Born in 1950 in Cherbourg and trained as a chemist, Maurice Roucel stepped into the world of perfumery when Henri Robert, perfumer at the house of Chanel, recruited him to set up a chromatography laboratory. He was then 23 years old, and it was under the guidance of this great perfumer that he began to learn his craft. He was later hired by IFF, then joined PPF which became Quest, and subsequently Givaudan. After a period at Dragoco, he went on to join Symrise. A committed creator and pioneer in defending his profession, he co-founded the legendary “Colisée group.” With generosity and sincerity, Maurice Roucel here recounts his long career and shares the story of some of his finest creations.

Tocade by Rochas (1994), Iris Silver Mist by Serge Lutens (1994), 24 faubourg d’Hermès (1995), Envy by Gucci (1997), Musc Ravageur for Frédéric Malle (2000), L’Instant by Guerlain (2003) and most recently Uncut Gem for Frédéric Malle (2022) are among his most famous works.
