Research Group on Odorants, Olfaction and Odor with the CNRS

Annual conference of the olfaction research group 

Established in 2015, the O3 Research Group – Odorant, Odour, Olfaction – or GDR O3, aims to develop transdisciplinary projects around odors. Research teams approach the subject broadly, from the study of odors themselves to their physiological perception and their many applications. The GDR O3 aims to create a network of collaborations and exchanges for researchers working on odors, a field with multiple dimensions and applications. Its objective is to bring together and engage the scientific community around odors and odorants.

To foster exchanges between researchers and encourage innovation, the GDR O3 organizes a two-day conference every year, where established and early-career researchers present their work and build connections. For the third consecutive year, the Fonds de Dotation Per Fumum is the exclusive sponsor of these meetings, which will take place on October 8 and 9, 2026, in Grenoble.

Thanks to the support of the Fonds de Dotation Per Fumum, access to these meetings is made easier for student researchers, whose participation is covered. They can thus benefit from scientific presentations and interdisciplinary exchanges between the research and industry communities, as well as have the opportunity to present their research.

Through these meetings, the GDR O3 seeks to identify emerging research topics and foster synergies in order to advance increasingly precise and relevant innovation in the fields of smell and olfaction. We are delighted to support these meetings.

Nathalie MANDAIRON

Nathalie Mandairon holds a PhD in Neuroscience and is dedicated to studying the neural bases of odor perception. She heads a team at the Lyon Neuroscience Research Centre and, with the help of Xavier Fernandez (Professor at Côte d'Azur University), coordinates the Odorant, Odeur, Olfaction Research Group. This initiative, set up by the CNRS in 2015, brings together laboratories from all over France. Nathalie Mandairon's aim is to promote multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary research in the fields of odor perception, odorous compounds, aromas and perfumes.
