An end-of-year marked by novelty

From Heritage(s) videos to scientific research on olfaction and a perfume scholarship, the Per Fumum Endowment Fund brings you the latest news.

The last quarter saw the launch of the perfume grant in support of Tristan Hinschberger, a student at the École du Louvre. This research will focus on the birth of a so-called «artistic» perfumery between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century with a focus on the different Universal and International Exhibitions during this period.  The aim is to understand how French perfumery and the expression of “French luxury” made their mark abroad and on the international scene during this period.

New on Héritage(s)! A special version for students in perfumery is added to the saga Héritage(s). In this new film of an exclusive 40-minute format, a selection of testimonials from perfume personalities have been meticulously chosen to inform the training of young professionals in perfumery. At the heart of this new film, the profession and transmission are subjects that students will be able to understand.

On the scientific research side, the CLIO project has launched a study in 2023 to examine the influence of genetic factors on olfactory pleasure, focusing specifically on the genetic variability of olfactory receptors for beta-ionone. This molecule is frequently used in cosmetics and perfumery. Initial results, based on 70 participants, indicate a correlation between genetic sensitivity to beta-ionone and hedonic appreciation of fragrances containing it.

DECEMBER 2023

As the year draws to a close, the project has been given a new scope to pursue these investigations by expanding the number of participants and examining the physiological and neural mechanisms underlying this relationship.

Coming soon! The next fundraising campaign for the Per Fumum Endowment Fund Vintage 2024 will run from January 1 to March 31, 2024. You can submit your projects using the form available in the “support request” ephemeral tab on our website.
