Sandra Cadiou, a senior lecturer in Education Sciences, is preparing the publication of a book dedicated to the Odor Field, an innovative linguistic system developed by Jean-Noël Jaubert. This editorial project is part of a broader approach to knowledge transmission, at the crossroads of semiotics, olfaction and education.
Unlike traditional classification systems, the Odor Field constitutes a genuine language based on 44 osmons, allowing smells to be characterised with precision. Widely used in training programmes in olfaction, flavour creation, luxury fragrance retail and higher education in perfumery, it represents a major theoretical contribution to understanding smell as an object of language, perception and transmission.
The book will be published in the Virus collection by Presses Universitaires de Grenoble. Its ambition is to make this fundamental theoretical contribution accessible to a wider audience through a concise, clear and synthetic publication. Designed as an open-access resource, it will be available for free download, with no financial benefit for either the author or the publisher, in order to prioritise the dissemination of scientific knowledge.

Sandra Cadiou is a senior lecturer in Education and Training Sciences at the Catholic University of the West, where she heads the third-year Bachelor’s programme in Education and Training Sciences. Her research examines teaching and learning situations through a clinical approach inspired by psychoanalysis, particularly in the fields of French language teaching, the education of unaccompanied minors and olfactory education. Within this field, she explores the subjective, symbolic and educational dimensions involved in transmitting knowledge about smell.
