On the occasion of the online release of Maurice Roucel’s testimonial video as part of the Héritage(s) collection, Symrise and the Fonds de Dotation Per Fumum organized an event in Paris bringing together the perfumer, filmmaker David Richard, and Francis Kurkdjian, founder of the Fund and initiator of this collection dedicated to the living memory of perfumery.
Hosted in the salons of Symrise, the evening welcomed journalists and industry professionals for an advance screening of several excerpts from Maurice Roucel’s filmed interview. Directed by David Richard, this testimony retraces more than fifty years in the career of a major perfumer, from his scientific training and early beginnings at Chanel to his creations at IFF, Quest, and then Symrise, where he has been working since 1996.
Speaking directly to camera, Maurice Roucel reflects on his career path, creative methods, professional commitments, and collaborations, offering insight into the evolution of the perfumer’s craft and the industry over the decades. The screening was followed by a conversation between Maurice Roucel and Francis Kurkdjian, illustrating the continuity of ideas, knowledge, and values passed down through generations of creators.
